THE PROPOSALS

Ainscough Strategic Land (ASL) are preparing an outline planning application for up to 450 new homes on the site. The proposed development on the site has been informed by a constraints-led masterplanning exercise, and presents the opportunity to support the existing local community through additional housing, public open space and management of the landscape to create an integrated new neighbourhood and eastern gateway into Droitwich Spa.

The main benefits of the proposals are as follows:

  • Provision of up to 450 much needed market and affordable homes at a type and tenure mix suitable for local housing needs.
  • Provision of 10% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), delivering measurable improvements to local wildlife and the natural environment through new habitat creation, including native planting and wildlife ponds to enhance foraging opportunities and increase aquatic habitats.
  • The creation of new access points from Hanbury Road for pedestrians and cyclists, providing links to the existing footpath and cycle network and making it easier and safer to travel by sustainable modes, particularly into Droitwich Spa to the west.
  • New and enhanced vehicular access, including the formation of a new roundabout from Hanbury Road, is proposed to accommodate the anticipated traffic movements, ensuring safe and efficient access to the site.
  • A landscape-led approach, including the creation of a landscaped green edge to Droitwich, tree-lined primary streets, and new areas of planting. The scheme will also provide significant public open space, including play areas for future residents, alongside focal buildings and features designed to soften the site’s boundaries and minimise visual impact on the surrounding countryside.
  • The scheme has been carefully designed to protect, conserve, and, where possible, enhance the setting and significance of nearby heritage assets, including Hadzor Hall, ensuring that new development respects the area’s historic character.
  • Financial contributions to local off-site infrastructure where necessary to mitigate the impacts of the proposed development.
  • Benefits to the local economy in the form of construction jobs and new residents to support the viability of existing services and facilities in the local area, and Wychavon District generally.

An illustrative concept plan (below) shows the provision of ample public open space to be used by future residents and the wider community, the retention of trees and hedgerows, the planting of additional foliage and provision of new ponds. Housing density will gradually reduce towards the eastern edge of the development to create a softer transition and ensure the scheme blends sensitively into the surrounding countryside.
